It took me awhile to discover this simple truth but it made such a difference in my healing process I now share this concept with everyone I meet.

Portion Size – Controlling Your Food Intake

 I grew up being told to finish everything on my plate. But is this the best advice? 


Many people forget, the reason you eat is to fuel your body. So, overeating is never a good idea because you want to go into fat burning mode not fat storing mode. Your body will tell you when it is full and to stop eating. You need to honor that request.


It is best to eat only when you need to fuel your body and not when you are stressed / emotional / and so forth. 


There are many ways you can keep your portion size to a healthy level. 

Stay Away From Chemicals in Foods / GMOs

There may be a reason you can’t put down that bag of chips / cookies / ice cream!

  

Companies put chemicals into foods. For instance - Gliadin is a component of gluten but it has been changed dramatically to amplify its opioid effects – Gliadin can’t be digested by humans fully – It’s broken down to pieces and those pieces bind to the human brain / receptors and has peculiar / detrimental effects in certain people with mental health concerns.


It can trigger your appetite causing us to consume on average 400 – 800 calories more per day mostly in carbohydrate and junk foods. 

Plating

The key is using smaller dishes and jars to hold your food.


1. Use Smaller Plates – There are at least 5 different plate sizes per place setting. (Extra Large / Large / Medium / Small / Saucer) 

  • Try using a medium plate for your main meal. It will still be a normal portion size but you will feel satisfied because your plate was full. 
  • Try using a saucer (or even smaller size) for your desert.      


2. Use Small and Mini Mason Jars 

  • Small jars are great for fruits / veggies / and so forth – You can grab them at a moment’s notice and still eat healthy
  • Small jars are especially important if you want to “not eat healthy.” Chips are a good example. If you fill your small jar with chips you are limited in what you eat but you feel satisfied because you ate a full jar. (However, if you choose to make your own healthy chips then it can be a win/win situation.)   :-)
  • Mini jars are great for puffed organic popcorn

Bite Size

1. Cut Your Food in Smaller Bites Sizes

  • This helps your digestion process because you will chew your food completely (because it is smaller and won’t take as long to chew) before swallowing which ensures your food doesn’t go through your stomach lining during the digestion process. 
  • When you take more bites you will feel full sooner.

Buffets

1. If you go please don’t overeat!

  • Don’t  use multiple plates 
  • Only go once to the buffet for your main food and use only one plate (just like you would at home) 
  • Use a small dish or bowl for your desert. This will help you choose your favorite desert (instead of a sampling) because there will be limited space.  :-)
